The information we collect may be used for pledge processing and follow-up communications with you, including acknowledgment letters, newsletters and periodic updates. We may acknowledge you by name for your donation. We may also use your information to help respond to your inquiries.

Security Procedures To Protect Your Information
You may provide on the United Way of New York City website personal information, or in the case of online payments, payment card information. The collection of this information is governed by this privacy policy. Any information you provide in an application to join BoardServeNYC may be transferred to the BoardServeNYC website and shall thereafter be governed by the BoardServeNYC Privacy Policy. The payment card information is transferred with SSL encryption to a third party processor, and that information is not stored by United Way of New York City. Information that you submit through the United Way of New York City website is transmitted to a United Way of New York City server with SSL encryption and is then stored on a password-protected database. We also require third parties who provide services to us and may have access to customer information (such as the third parties who provide Web site, customer service, data collection, storage and reporting services and mail vendors) share our commitment to maintaining your privacy and adhere to our nondisclosure requirements. We do not under any circumstances sell or rent customer information to any outside company or organization nor do we permit any such organization to use customer information for its own business purposes.

Disclosure of Your Personal Information to Third Parties
Where applicable, United Way of New York City will share your name and personal information (e.g., mailing address and pledge amount) with other United Ways and/or, where applicable, with charities to which you designate your gift, for purposes of fulfilling your giving intentions and enabling such organizations to acknowledge your gift and otherwise communicate with you. While we do not disclose your personal information to other third parties except in the manner provided in this Policy, we reserve the right to disclose the information of BoardServeNYC applicants in a summary or aggregated (and anonymous) form to NYC Service, an office within the Office of the Mayor of New York City and a funding partner in the implementation of BoardServeNYC, or another New York City agency designated by NYC Service, upon request. We may also disclose your personal information if we are compelled to do so to comply with valid legal processes such as a search warrant, subpoena or court order, or a valid administrative request from a law enforcement agency, or in the unlikely situation where we, in good faith, believe such information is necessary to protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of United Way of New York City or the public. We also reserve the right to share with third parties certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information.

In connection with a merger, acquisition or any form of sale of some or all of the assets of United Way of New York City, your personally identifiable information may be transferred to a third party and may become subject to a different privacy policy. Under these circumstances, we would to the extent possible require the acquiring party to follow the practices described in this privacy policy.
